宜興紫砂材質中的“小紅泥”是不加他料的嫩泥，含大量氧化鐵，經過窯溫燒會變成朱紅色，泥質細、砂粒微、密度大、結晶高，窯溫約為1080度。

小紅泥和朱泥同屬紅泥系，對比礦料顏色接近，但小紅泥的質地更堅硬，且不溶於水。其砂性略重，燒制溫度比朱泥高一些。紅泥的泥性適中，幹濕易掌握，穩定性好，小紅泥的收縮比朱泥小，朱泥的收縮達到20%以上，小紅泥的收縮大約是12%。收縮小變形小，因此小紅泥紫砂壺的品相往往更好。小紅泥成品顏色和朱泥接近，朱泥比小紅泥更紅一些。

The color of the finished product of Small Red Clay is close to that of red clay, and red clay is redder than Small Red Clay.

【開壺】：由於製作過程中的原因,新壺內可能殘留有加工產生的灰塵或者石英粉末等污染物，需要清除乾淨後才可供飲用。首先把茶壺放在水裏清洗乾淨，用開水多次沖淋。然後用較多的茶葉放在壺中並加入開水，靜置一段時間。最後把紫砂壺洗淨擦幹便可。

 【使用前先溫壺】：先注入40-50度的水，拿起壺，晃一下，使壺體均勻的受熱，這樣壺暖了，把水倒了，再注入沸水，再晃動一下，再倒掉。這一過程，是讓壺體均勻的受熱和可以順便清洗和消毒壺體。

 【選茶定壺】：每種茶對應的壺不同，選對壺才能泡好茶。一茶侍一壺。一壺侍一茶具有三大優點，一是不易串味，能增加茶香，並保持茶湯的醇厚度;二是長期泡一種茶，茶壺會更加細膩;三是能增加生活的儀式感。
