How to preserve unused teapots

The purple clay teapot has not been used for a while. When I opened the lid, I found some mold spots and odor on the wall of the teapot. After washing it, I was worried that the spout would get moldy again. How do you usually preserve purple clay teapots?

There are generally several reasons why mold spots appear on purple clay teapots:

Possibility 1: After washing the purple clay teapot, the tea lover did not wait for the teapot to be completely dry before covering the teapot with a lid, which caused water to accumulate in the teapot and air to stagnate, thus causing mold spots to grow.

Possibility 2: High humidity in the air. February and March are the rainy seasons in the south every year. The humidity in the air is very high, and coupled with poor circulation in the space, purple clay teapots can also become moldy if they are not properly stored.

How to remove "mold stains"?

Operation method: Pour boiling water into the purple clay pot, and when the pot is heated, pour out the water and pour in cold boiled water. Repeat this process several times to remove both mold stains and moldy smells. Purple clay itself has unique air permeability and shrinkage. When it is exposed to alternating hot and cold, it will shrink and open like the pores of human skin.

How to preserve a teapot that has been used for tea and is not in use for a while but is afraid of getting moldy?

Many teapot lovers must have more than one or two teapots, but if they put too many teapots together on the tea table, they are afraid of getting bumped and damaged. So after using it for a while, you need to let it rest. There should also be a unique way to maintain these purple clay teapots that are not in use for a while.

Many friends just wash the purple clay teapot and put it back in the brocade box they bought it in. This is not recommended. Because the purple clay teapot is placed in a brocade box, which is not breathable, and the tea stains and other substances in the purple clay teapot are prone to mildew, producing odors and are difficult to store!

Suggestion: The purple clay teapot can be handled in the following four steps if it is left unused for a long time:

1. The used purple clay teapot must be completely dried in the shade, and no moisture can be left in the teapot. To check whether the teapot is dry, you can put a piece of paper towel on the lid, and open the lid and look at the paper towel the next day.

2. The teapot with moisture cannot be wrapped or placed in a box, otherwise the tea scale in the teapot will easily become moldy.

3. The purple clay teapot should be placed in a ventilated place that avoids long-term direct sunlight. It cannot be placed in a stuffy place. It is best to have a special shelf for placing teapots.

4. If the teapot is not used for a long time, you also need to put a handful of dry tea leaves in the teapot.
